Mise- en- scene

For our Multimedia Mise-en-scene project, my goal was to describe my character, Jason Craw, using a mood board created on Canva. Jason is a football player who secretly loves poetry, and I wanted to show the contrast between his athletic public persona and his creative, introspective side. The mood board included images of him in football gear alongside written lines of poetry, and I used the color green to give an athletic vibe demonstrating the fact it is the color of a football field.

My partners contributed to the project by creating a Bloxburg house to represent Jason's setting, a Spotify album to reflect his thoughts and emotional state, and the props, including a pair of football shoes and a poem book, to illustrate his mixed personality. We organzied all the elements in a way that highlighted both sides of Jason, with visual items grouped together and the audio and written elements nearby to provide context. This organization helped create a complete representation of his character and mood.

Developing Jason involved applying ideas from the representation lesson, such as stereotypes, codes and conventions, and ideology. We wanted to challenge the idea that athletes are one-dimensional by showing their creative side alongside their football identity. The combination of the mood board, props, Bloxburg house, and Spotify album all worked together to show this contrast. Our group worked collaboratively, dividing tasks based on strengths, and the result was a cohesive character station that clearly represented Jason Craw's complex personality.

Genre Research Blog Activity : How is Action so Engaging?

Action movies have always been a big deal in today's films. They draw in teenagers and grown-ups who like stories that move quick and hit hard. These pictures focus on fights up close, real guts, and just doing it through tough spots. You often see heroes taking on bad guys or wild dangers that test them. Key actors, such as Tom Cruise and Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible , are heavily involved, often performing their own dangerous, complex stunts to increase the realism and spectacle, a fact that is frequently highlighted in the promotion. Aspects like brawls, high-speed car pursuits, big blasts, and last-second plot saves show up a lot. Filmmakers speed up the cuts, swing cameras around in shaky ways, and layer in sounds that ramp up the edge. They mix computer effects with real stunt work to pull viewers right into the chaos. It all feels more realistic and creates more attention for the viewers. Promotions read on clips that tease the wild parts, big-name stars, and huge scenes. Posters and online pushes play up the dramatic bits to draw crowds from across the world. For an idea of the promotional style, you can check the trailer for The Dark Knight The Dark Knight - Official Trailer 3 [HD] - YouTubeand the intense action teased in the official trailer for Top Gun: Maverick Top Gun: Maverick | NEW Official Trailer (2022 Movie) - Tom Cruise - YouTube.

Films such as John Wick from 2014 and Mission Impossible Fallout in 2018 capture what the whole thing is about. Keanu Reeves ' commitment to the "gun-fu" choreography, where he performs nearly all of his fight sequences, is central to the feel of the franchise. John Wick nails it with tight fight setups, shadowy looks, and a drive that comes from the heart. That mix gives a gritty feel mixed with cool flair. You can see this style in the film's official trailer here:John Wick (2014) - Official Trailer - Keanu Reeves - YouTube. Fallout grabs attention through massive feats and that pulls between right and wrong. The sheer scale of the action, largely thanks to Tom Cruise, is key, which is why the promotional "Behind the Scenes" footage of the elaborate helicopter sequence became an advertisement itself:Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018) - Helicopter Stunt Behind The Scenes - Paramount Pictures - YouTube. Both pull off the trick of weaving body-pounding action with deeper feelings. That mix sets the tone for these kinds of films. Other notable films such as Mad Max Fury Road Mad Max: Fury Road –Trailer HD – Official Warner Bros. UK - YouTube, Die Hard Official Trailer #1 - DIE HARD (1988, Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman, John McTiernan), and Gladiator Gladiator (2000) Trailer #1 | Movieclips Classic Trailers - YouTubedo the same thing, relying on iconic lead performances. At the end, action pulls together that rush, heart, and big displays. In conclusion, this genre lets people dive into a world full of drama and realism.

Blog Posting- Sound

 Sound Project 1:

For this project, we were expected to brainstorm topics on sound, especially a 1-2 minute audio of a black screen  of our idea. Since we were only allowed to use 7 words throughout our audio, we found it useful for our brainstorming to come up with something unique. Our project is composed of downloaded sounds from websites such as Pixabay and my own foley sounds I made at home. The sounds outlines helped a lot conveying our audio including the foley sounds. We used the clipchamp app which is the best for these types of projects. Our idea was a normal bike ride suddenly turning into a loud storm making riders have to take shelter at a restaurant and taking time for themselves there. I believe that this plan was unique for the audio, and conveys sounds that could make others visualize what is happening. However, I also believe that we could've added more to our project considering it was only about 1 minute and 5 seconds long. For example, the biker could've crashed on something and needs to look for help, that could've made it more interesting. Overall, our project is understandable and helps the listener understand and create images in their head based off the plot of the audio.

Sound Project 2: On this project, we were assigned to add audio including our own foley sounds to our one word film. During the brainstorming, my partner and I went through our project a couple times and decided on what sounds we could add. Our original outline helped contribute to our sounds the same way the video did. Reviewing the video and the outline helped us imagine what sounds would fit the scene. Our project was made on clipchamp which made it simpler to upload audio to our film. Tracing back to the project, I believe that the audios we added were ideal to the film, they portray everyday things that you hear at school like the chatter in the classroom and the backpack zipper. Although we did great on that part, we could've improved the quality on some of the foley sounds even though it fits into the ambience of the film.
